Directing

As a director, I have deep love for weirdos.

My sensibilities are offbeat, blending equal parts sharp commentary and weird humor, with a persistent underlying vulnerability in all of my works. As a gay, gender non-conforming theatre artist, I can’t help but lean toward the unexpected – finding nuance in characters and moments that may otherwise be overlooked or judged.

Being that I am a trained actor, I bring that valuable experience to my work as a director. I speak the language, understand their processes, with communication, connection and trust being at the heart of every rehearsal. I am able to create a fun, collaborative environment between myself and the actors, while also maintaining commitment to detail and an unapologetic specificity. I’m also incapable of doing anything halfway. Those who know me know that when I’m invested in a project, it becomes my life for it’s full duration! (Sorry to my friends who have to listen to me ramble. Love you guys)

I’m happy to wear multiple hats in a production – I even learned how to build puppets for my solo directorial debut. And having a background in composition and vocal arranging, music often finds it’s way into my work as a natural extension of the storytelling. I’ve arranged for several productions, even composing original songs for a world-premiere musical!
